the orthopedic surgeon

Today Courtney finally got in to see the orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Kit McCalla. After talking with him we should have seen him much sooner. Its one of those things where we all kind of dropped the ball here. First we should have noticed alot sooner that something was wrong but when we did it was over the weekend and if we would have taken her to the ER more then likely the doctor on duty would have just splint her up and told us to go to the pediatricians on Monday which is what we did. The pediatrician sent us off to the Xray place which in turn sent a report stating "...the left forearm demonstate nondisplaced fracture of the mid to distal shaft of the radius. There is a "plastic" deformity ofthe ulna as well suggesting microfracture..." The later has starting the healing process so now its going to be about 6-8 weeks in a splint and about a year of rehabitaltion to get it to the right curvature. Dr. McCalla wishes he would have seen her on Monday as soon as we had the film but his office is pretty busy and my pediatrician didnt make it STAT so today was the first real appointment available. I feel awful about the whole thing but there isnt much we can do about it now. She didnt get a cast on because the doctor doesnt like to cast little ones because they end up pulling the off and this way if she does get it off we can put it back on ourselves. The splint was molded to her arm so its pretty tough all around with a little wiggle room so we can take it off to wash her arm. Poor little girl!
